Family photos can cause a lot of stress, especially for mom. You might be worried the kids aren't going to be in a good mood, how to convince dad to get on board, what if no one smiles for the camera and what on earth are you going to wear?! I'm here to tell you it's going to be OK, you can have beautiful family pictures done and have good time during the session! How? Keep reading for my tips on how to make family photos fun!
1. Plan ahead
Picking a photographer and booking a session date is just part of the process. In order to get photos that represent your family you'll need to help your photographer get to know your family ahead of time. Part of the photo experience with Jessica Worland Photography includes a pre-session questionnaire. This can be a fun opportunity to sit down as a family and get everyone's input on what makes your family unique. The questions are simple, like "describe a perfect Sunday together" or "what do you love about your family" and will help us tell your story.
2. Pick a fun location
In order to create a good memory you need to be doing something your family enjoys. In home sessions are a great way to showcase your life and keep everyone comfortable. The kids love to show off their rooms and favorites, which can give you more time to get ready, and then we can get the whole family together to snuggle, play a game or bake cookies! Another great option is to meet at one of your favorite places. Fall sessions are a blast at a local pumpkin patch or apple orchard!
3. Ignore the camera
I won't spend much time directing the shoot since we want your photos to be natural but I will remind you to "stop looking at the camera". As you play together your love will shine through and smiles will come naturally! Better yet the kids (and dad) will probably enjoy themselves when we aren't telling them how to sit, where to look at force a smile for an hour.
